Wei Zhao was born in 1995 in Zhejiang, China. She graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2017, and entered the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the same year. Her works have been exhibited in Chicago, New York, the Venice Biennale, Shanghai, and other places. She currently resides and works in Chicago.
The purpose of Wei Zhao’s works is to use visual images to evoke emotions deep within people. She explores the resonance of inner emotions by extracting and representing fragments of the environment. Often utilizing various "cold mediums" in everyday living spaces, she expresses years of accumulated thoughts on architectural space. Through the creation of architectural spaces, she implies dynamic clues and arouses public perception, revealing the viewer's inner thoughts laden with memories about the space and freezing the images at the most empathetic moment. The overall visual style is tranquil and resonant, creating a rich aftertaste.
